Cartridge Filling & Assembly

CUSTOMER COMPLETION OF MAGNHM CARTRIDGES

In order to utilize the Boulder Buster given the state of propellant supply customers will need to source propellant along with the primer that will be imbedded into the cartridge holder and necessary to effect propellant ignition. The company will provide all of the cartridge components necessary to fill and assemble a completed cartridge.  This will include the cartridge body parts, cartridge wing, and shrink tube.  Customers will need to source the propellant and center fire 209 Shotshell primers.

The Cartridge Assembly Drawing shows how all the items fit together in an exploded view. This assembly drawing shows an O-ring seal.  We now supply a preferred alternative – a 1 in long by 1 in diameter shrink wrap sleeve.  The shrink wrap sleeve creates a superior seal and offers additional structural support.  You heat shrink it just over the cartridge top about a 1/8 inch, sufficient to secure and seal the top firing pin part but not over-covering the top such that the circumferential pressure channel becomes blocked off with excess shrink tube.  That channel needs to be substantially open in order to allow the shock wave through with sufficient pressure to shear the firing pin shear-disk designed into the part.

The following list shows several Retail Branded Propellant varieties that all perform equally and can be sourced through the standard reloading retail suppliers.

Ramshot True Blue, Accurate arms No 5, Winchester AutoComp, Hodgdon CFE Pistol, Ramshot ZIP

The Shotshell center fire 209 primers can also be sourced through the same retail channels.

We will supply the cartridge parts, wings and shrink tube as a product unit.  We will also supply the initiation No 1 Cartridges and Water Gel packs supplied and priced separately.

Propellant is sold in 1 lb, 4 lb and 8 lb canisters at the retail level.  There are 453 grams in a pound so you can make a propellant volume calculation using that weight ratio.  (As an example: one pound of propellant will complete about (18) No 30 cartridges.

The No 30 cartridges take 25 grams of propellant, the No 20 cartridges take 12 to 13 grams and the No 10 takes 7 to 8 grams.

Cartridge Filling and Assembly Instructions

Make or find a honeycomb tray that will hold several cartridges upright-say around 50-that will also hold and preserve any spilled propellant.  Acquire a funnel and a measuring cup. Pre-weigh the measuring cup with your gram specification and then fill the cartridges.  Press fit the primer into the Primer Holder (it will be easier with a wooden or plastic dowel) by placing the primer on the dowel and pressing the primer holder down onto the primer which is in the fixed position.

This will get you setup to fill and assemble your own cartridges.
